This has been a crazy week of rain and flooding in the Houston area. But the weather cleared up just in time for Katie and Brad’s big day at the McGovern Centennial Gardens at Hermann Park. The day started at Hotel Zaza where they got ready for their wedding. After getting a few photos, we headed to the gardens for a beautiful outdoor ceremony. As a graduate of UH College of Architecture, I have admired the modern design of Peter Bohlin of the Cherie Flores Pavilion since it opened in 2015. The clean architectural lines, combined with a theme garden rooms, and the 30 foot Garden Mount make it one of the most unique wedding venues in Houston. I was able to get some great portraits of the couple around the gardens after the ceremony. Katie and Brad shared their first dance and later dueled in the traditional fight songs of Texas A&M and University of Texas! After cutting the cake, they mingled with friends and guests both in and outside of the pavilion and enjoyed the pleasantly cool evening weather. For their grand exit, guests lined up with glow sticks to send them off for the night. Wedding Coordinator: Bella Luna  |  Hair and Makeup: […]

Drew and Taemee met in medical school in Houston. Taemee jokes that they met “in typical nerd fashion” in the library studying for exams. But Drew remembers falling for Taemee at a birthday party in 2012 when she walked in looking “more beautiful and striking than I’d ever seen her.” He adds, “She was absolutely stunning. She was funny, interesting, and down to earth. I just enjoyed being around her.” Upon graduating, they both ended up in New York for their medical residency where their love grew stronger. Fast forward to the big day – It started at the Omni Hotel where I was able to get some great photos of Drew getting ready. Then I headed to the Bell Tower on 34th to capture Taemee getting ready with her bridesmaids, who were also ALL doctors! Drew and Taemee shared a sweet first look and we quickly got some group photos and portraits of the two of them before the rain really started to come down. Then it was time to get ready for the ceremony. Shooting a Jewish wedding under a chuppah can be challenging. It can create a shadow under the canopy, making for some pretty unflattering lighting. So […]

Like 35% of recent married couples, Michael and Sara met online. The same Forbe’s article to publish that statistic, goes on to say that couples who meet online are happier and more likely to stay married. After capturing Michael and Sara’s special day, I would say they are definitely going to be happy together for a very long time. The pre-wedding shoot at La Colombe D’or included photos of the dress and Sara getting ready with her family and friends. One of my favorite captures was of Sara helping one of her flowers girls get ready. Once the bride was dressed, we went outside for the first look. I always love this moment when the couple see each other for the first time on their wedding day, and can share their emotions and love privately. The couple then boarded the shuttle and we headed to the St. Theresa Catholic Church for the ceremony. I had seen this church many times because it’s behind one of my daughter’s favorite playgrounds, but never had shot a wedding there before. The ladies at the church were very kind and told me that they preferred that we don’t use a lot of flash, but […]

I don’t like to be surprised at weddings. I work really hard to make sure I am beyond prepared for everything. But I was pleasantly surprised when I met lovely Rochelle and Danny for the first time, on their wedding day. They had booked online and we had been communicating exclusively via phone and emails, so I had actually never met the bride or groom in person. Upon meeting them, I realized this was going to be a great couple to work with! The bride prepared promptly, and the outdoor ceremony on the courtyard of Brennan’s began. After the ceremony, I took some time to get portraits of Rochelle and Danny around the restaurant. What became obvious during this brief time alone with them is how much Danny adores Rochelle. After a few photos of them facing at the camera, I would prompt Danny to look at Rochelle and he would just melt with love for her. After the session, we headed upstairs to the reception where they shared their first dance and you couldn’t help but see the love between them. Then during the dance, I caught some of Danny’s infectious laughter on camera! I loved getting a few more […]

Having been a professional wedding photographer for over 10 years, I have heard some amazing stories about couples’ journeys to their big day. But I have to say Steph and Sam’s journey is one of the most remarkable stories I’ve ever heard. I won’t go into all the details, but it involves competing for an exclusive Japanese study abroad program, a love triangle, a 7 hour post-earthquake rescue mission, and a Harry Potter proposal! The latter of which was published by Cosmopolitan, The Telegraph UK and Houston Chronicle! And who do you hire to plan an extraordinary wedding to celebrate this extraordinary couple? You guessed it, Kat Creech Events. I was curious to see how Kat would bring the Harry Potter theme to her designs and as usual, she did not disappoint. The first thing I noticed was the aisle runner made up of pages from Harry Potter books. Then there was the Quidditch inspired guest card hoops and custom design crest for the couple. There were Harry Potter details everywhere including the programs, gift table, props for photobooth, and many more. But I have to say that the crowd favorite had to be Widget, the owl who flew down the […]

I was thrilled at the opportunity to shoot our first wedding at Moffitt Oaks in Tomball last weekend! I had already seen some of the amazing photos of the ranch-style property on the web site, when Jody and Sae asked me to shoot their wedding. Adding to the excitement was the anticipation that Jody and Sae’s special day was going to be brimming with beautiful details because they had so many great props and ideas at their engagement session. They did not disappoint. My favorite detail was the custom etched mug for each of the groomsmen, which contained a boutonniere and gift. It’s rare that we get to shoot 2 outdoor weddings in the hot, humid city of Houston, in 2 weeks (see Vu wedding blog here). However, the staff and crew of Steve Lee Photography and our partners at Avalee Films were treated to a perfectly pleasant and sunny outdoor ceremony. Oh, yeah, and I think the wedding couple and guests enjoyed it too. The ceremony took place lakeside in a beautiful outdoor setting with the fountain as the backdrop. But honestly, the stars of the show were the two perfectly behaved dogs, who strutted down the aisle in their […]

It was epic. But that’s the norm when we shoot a wedding with Kat Creech Events. The weather was perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony and while the dinner was indoors, the dance floor and casino area were all outdoors. We don’t get to shoot too many outdoor receptions in Houston, but this was the perfect night. The unique outdoor areas of River Oaks Garden Club made a great background. So it turns out Chris, the groom, was the emotional one. He was teary eyed throughout the ceremony and a few more times during the reception. I love to see guys showing emotion. I remember getting tears in my eye as I saw my wife, Anid, walking down the aisle 11 years ago. It’s a moment that I’ll never forget. And I was able to get the perfect shot of Chris as Carrie was walking down the aisle (see images above). These are the kind of images that make me fulfilled and honored to be a wedding photographer. Oh, and did I mention this was a Kat Creech Events wedding? If there is one thing you can count on with Kat, there will be creative, beautiful and innovative designed elements […]
